THE STORY SO FAR
Music has always been my life. I was raised in a home where music was always playing. Any genre, any time— there was never a silent moment. Of course the local radio station added to the mix, and playing Rock Band threw in even more. (It was only a matter of time after that before I got my first guitar— though to be honest, I always felt I was supposed to be a drummer).
I picked up an alto sax in middle school and my whole musical world opened up. I discovered a love for Jazz and improvisation while studying greats like Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, and Duke Ellington.
At that point, the soundtrack to my life was eclectic, but there was always a sound that stood out to me and felt like home. The sound that got my blood pumping and my body moving… The sound that felt like it never stopped— like I could get hypnotized for hours and forget about the world, or I could get lifted into something bigger than myself. That sound was dance music.
Dance music is who I am.
For over 12 years now, I’ve been working on my skills as a producer, learning the magic of good DJing, finding my sound, and discovering who I am as an artist… all in my own little bubble. My hard drive has been full for the longest time. Passion projects, academic endeavors, and stories of love and loss — all being hoarded while I told myself it wasn’t ready. I feel lucky now, listening with kinder ears, that I can hear how much I love this music even in my earliest work.
It’s long overdue that I bring you all in on the journey. Stay a while, and see what comes next.
With love,
Mike
HISTORY AND PICS AND STUFF…
My first DJ controller was a Pioneer DDJ-SB. I still have it.
I initially got Ableton (8 or 9 Lite) to do background instrumentals for my saxophone, but that changed pretty quickly…
Originally, I got the Novation launchpad after watching a video by Jack Conte that was a Daft Punk / Skrillex remix.
Me & my aforementioned Alto Sax in high school... It’s a silver Selmer La Voix II.
In college, I started DJing at parties and formal events all around campus. Most events I did with my Denon MCX8000 and an Alienware Laptop. Sometimes the room was empty, other times we had maybe 300+? The shows were fun though.
I worked on so many fun projects with so many talented people while I was in school.
Here’s a pic from a show I was doing with Zaire the Zeitgeist, and a promo shot from a collaboration project I’d done with both Zaire the Zeitgeist & Avril.
Some shows I’ve been lucky enough to catch… from deadmau5 on April Fool’s, to getting caked at Steve Aoki, to raving the days away at Ultra Music Festival with my fiancée (who’s also my dance partner, collaborator, and best friend.)
That’s it for now, but I’m excited to see where this journey in music takes me, and I can’t wait to dance with you all along the way.
Stay tuned.
